Privacy Policy
MacConvert is a file converter for macOS, iOS and visionOS made by Malcolm Stone ("we"). This policy explains what the app and its optional cloud service do with your data. The short version: conversions run on your device by default and nothing leaves it; the cloud service only ever holds what you deliberately put in it, and you can delete all of it, and your account, at any time from inside the app.
Converting files on your device
Every converter and tool in the app runs locally. Files you convert are read from where you chose them and written where you asked; they are not uploaded, analysed or logged by us. The app keeps a list of recent conversions and your preferences on your device (and, if you use several of your own devices, in your iCloud Keychain / app group as Apple provides). The Safari, Share, Action, Quick Look, Thumbnail, Intents, Widgets, Watch and iMessage extensions have the same behaviour: they hand files to the converter on the device.
The optional MacConvert account
Some features need an account: the synced cloud folder, cloud conversions for formats a phone cannot convert on its own, the Pro plan, extra storage and token packs, and pairing your devices with each other. If you never sign in, none of the following applies.
When you create an account we store:

Files sent for cloud conversion are processed on our servers (Google Cloud, United States) and the result is returned to you; temporary copies are deleted after the job, and synced files are kept only as long as they are in your folder.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or share your data with anyone for their own purposes.
- We do not use advertising, tracking or analytics SDKs, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not read the contents of your files for anything other than converting or syncing them at your request.
Who else processes data
Only the providers we need to run the service, acting under our instructions: Apple (Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, push notifications), Google (Sign in with Google if you choose it, and Google Cloud, which hosts the service and its storage). Each is bound by its own contractual commitments to protect your data.
Retention and deletion
Your account data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account from Settings › Account › Delete Account in the app (or by emailing us); this permanently removes your account, devices, synced files, history and profile within 30 days, apart from records we must keep for accounting. Removing a file from the synced folder deletes it from our storage.
Your rights
You can access, export, correct or delete your data at any time from the app, or by writing to us. If you are in the EEA, UK or another region with data-protection law, you also have the rights that law grants you, including the right to complain to your supervisory authority. We rely on the contract with you (providing the service you asked for) and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure as the legal bases for the processing described here.
Children
MacConvert is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will note it here and, for account holders, in the app.
